Beyond Technocracy: Why Local Knowledge is the Cornerstone of Climate Adaptation in Conflict-Affected Cities

This perspective argues that technocratic, top-down climate adaptation approaches often fail in conflict-affected cities due to weak governance, fragmented infrastructure, and lack of reliable data. It highlights local knowledge—rooted in lived experience, social networks, and informal systems—as a critical foundation for effective, context-specific, and sustainable adaptation strategies.
